In the battle against breast cancer, you are highly encouraged to follow a regimen of personal physician care, regular mammography screening and breast self-evaluations. These are vital to detecting abnormalities early, since early detection is key to treating breast cancer.
At Florida Hospital Celebration Health, we want you to feel comfortable discussing any breast issues with us. This includes telling us about your family history, particularly information about those in your family who have had breast cancer.
In between visits with your doctor, you should conduct a thorough self-exam. If you're not sure how to do this, your doctor can show you what you should be looking for and how to detect small changes in your breasts. Any noticeable changes should be discussed immediately with your doctor so additional testing can be conducted.
A mammogram is the most common method of detecting a lump or tumor in your breast. This is particularly true if the density of tissue in your breast makes it difficult to conduct a thorough self-exam. Mammograms are notorious for being uncomfortable, but our caring, experienced imaging team can make it as stress and pain free as possible.
Florida Hospital Celebration Health is excited about the development of digital mammography, which allows us to capture much more detailed images of the breast than conventional mammography. Because these images are digitized from the beginning, you'll spend a lot less time being imaged, which translates into greater comfort for you. Digital mammography also uses far less radiation than conventional x-ray mammography.
Florida Hospital Celebration Health is extremely proactive when it comes to screening, diagnosing and treating breast health issues, particularly breast cancer. With early detection and effective intervention, you have a good chance of beating breast cancer.
