When a patient is having a heart attack, there's no time to waste. For a major heart attack such as an ST-elevation myocardial infarction, doctors have only 90 minutes to restore blood flow or the patient will likely die.
Knowing that minutes count, Florida Hospital Celebration Health has created an integrated response that gets you the attention you need quickly and efficiently. The goal is to stop the heart from being damaged as quickly as possible.
If a heart attack is confirmed in the hospital's emergency department, the attending response team will rush you to the cath lab. There, cardiologists will perform a balloon angioplasty or other catheter procedures to quickly restore blood flow to the heart muscle. Catheterization can also identify the need for more dramatic interventions, such as surgery.
In many cases, you can return home in just 24 hours following a balloon angioplasty.
