Prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer found in American men, right behind skin cancer. Each year more than 230,000 men will be told by their doctor that they have prostate cancer. All told, one in six men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.
While no cure for prostate cancer has yet been found, Florida Hospital Celebration Health is working diligently to increase the survival rate through innovative new treatments and procedures.
One of the most promising of these is the robotic prostatectomy, which has consistently demonstrated superior outcomes compared to traditional approaches when it comes to cancer control, incontinence and impotence. Florida Hospital Celebration Health was an earlier adopter of robotics and we have on staff one of the most experienced robotic prostatectomy surgeons in the world. To date, Dr. Vipul Patel has performed nearly 3,000 robotic prostatectomies, more than any other doctor in the world.
The da Vinci® robots at the Global Robotics Institute allow surgeons here to transfer their surgical skills to a minimally invasive approach that is extremely precise and is quickly becoming the standard in surgical removal of the prostate. We are proud to say that our robotic surgical teams have traveled the world to teach this state-of-the-art procedure to other surgeons.
