Physical Therapy

For some women, treatment is just the beginning of the road to full recovery. Certain advanced gynecologic conditions and procedures can affect you physically, emotionally and spiritually, meaning that you will need to rebuild your strength and regain your independence.

At Florida Hospital we have developed one of the finest physical therapy programs in the country. Leveraging our vast knowledge of physiology, physical fitness and rehabilitation, we can create a personalized program that will get you back to feeling like yourself, so you can enjoy your life to its fullest.

We are particularly proud of our Pelvic Floor Program, which is one of only two programs of its kind in the region. The program is designed specifically to evaluate and treat pelvic floor disorders.

With extensive post-graduation education and hands-on training in this specialty, our physical therapists can provide you with the professional, one-on-one care you need to get back to feeling like you.

The program offers patients private treatment rooms in a discrete, comfortable environment, utilizing the latest advances in pain management, rehabilitation and physical therapy.

If you have pelvic floor health issues, our professional staff will help you restore your pelvic and lumbar symmetry, reduce muscle tension, improve joint mobility, increase flexibility and reduce the symptoms associated with adhesions. Treatments can include soft tissue mobilization, trigger point release, strain/counterstrain, deep stretching and joint mobilization.

To get you back in shape, our trained physical therapists use a wide range of techniques, including biofeedback using external, vaginal and rectal sensors to reduce hypertonus as well as help the pelvic floor and core muscles improve their strength, endurance and coordination. We also use electrical stimulation, ultrasound, interferential stimulation and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) to help relieve pain and facilitate pelvic floor contractions. Some of these tools are available for home use, including biofeedback and electrical stimulation equipment.

In addition to these highly effective therapies, Florida Hospital's experienced and caring physical therapists will teach you exercises that will build the strength of your pelvic floor and stabilize your core muscles and lumbar. They will also help you restore body mechanics and realign your posture to achieve proper muscle balance.

If you have bladder-retraining issues, we can assist you with that too. We can help you learn effective toileting positions as well as dietary changes to address your bowel movements and bladder evacuation issues.

For more than a century, Florida Hospital has been making women with health issues whole again - mind, body and spirit. Our world-class physical therapists and our unique Pelvic Floor Program are a testament to this commitment to your health and well being.
